Working while studying

To succeed and cope equally with your studies and work might be difficult to grab upon but once you’ve got the hang of it, the benefits of a job can be seen in several angles. But, the big question here is, how can one make it look so easy? Without doubt, the nonstop assignment deadlines and getting ready for exams are just two out of the many obstacles we face as University students. When you are in full control of yourself, disciplined and really determined, to work and study at the same time is really no fret and regardless of what people have got to say, it is really mind over matter on what you can do if you set your mind to.
Hazwan Afiq from Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying (FSPU) who works daily back and forth from Shah Alam to The Gardens megamall as a customer advisor for ‘Mudah’ shares a few tips up his sleeves.
Minimize time consume for something not needed
A good example is sacrificing routines or activities that will only affect you. This just simply means to reduce any activities that are less important than the other activities. Take for example between watching your favorite TV show and spending time with your family and friends, which would you rather keep close to you. Make use of the time you have, you won’t believe how fast time flies!
Sneak it in!
Always have review materials on you at all times! Regardless whether you bring small card notes or somehow bring the whole book with you as well. There are just tons of times throughout the day where you will find five to ten minutes of free time. Like when doing you’re doing grocery shopping, waiting for the queue, walking to the car, etc. You might as well pull out those fancy smart phones out and read notes from there on the go! The more time you fill those empty minutes with reading study materials, the more time you save on studying all together.
Mohd. Nazmirul Hafiz from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also works daily at a nearby workshop tells us a few of his secrets into keeping both his studies and job performance up to par.
Work what is related to you!
What this simply means is that you apply for a job that would relate a lot to what you are studying, or just by all means, a job that you yourself would enjoy. The benefits and calmness you get on doing a job you enjoy and are learning from can balance the mutual performance in both your study and job. Another major benefit this brings is that it will naturally pre-prepare you for the real world once you have graduated. Always make sure you enjoy the job rather than mentally torturing yourself. Make your job worth the time spent regardless of the payment. Enjoying your job means finding calmness at your place of work, not to bring more stress in hand and situation.
Prioritize your studies!
This might be the most important rule that every student should have in mind. Students should know that their responsibility as a University student comes more into place. Your job might be your side income but your study is the first main reason you are here. Your job must be suitable not just in terms of self acknowledgement, but in also must suit the busy life of a University student. Make sure both your boss is aware and understands your responsible as a student comes first.
So, if basically, just by skipping the episodes of TV shows and flipping out your smart phones on the go, you are locked and loaded to both study-work! The right mindset always has to know that your study comes first, only then comes your job. And, last but certainly not least, have fun at work!
